Fish Oil in Baked Goods?

June 28th, 2011

Omega-3 enriched breadThus far its been difficulty to find ways to increase your Omega-3 intake using baked goods.  The inability to remove the fishy-like taste does not make for delicious pastries.

Although we tend to disagree, many eco-friendly people are looking for fish oil alternatives.  Now we find a company producing baking friendly products full of the Omega-3 fatty acids that you need.  Currently you can find omega-3 enriched at such wonderful places as Wegman’s, the popular east coast grocery chain.  If you look carefully there you will find many Omega-3 enriched products, beyond the bakery.  Cargill is also supporting a shortening enriched with Omega-3 under its Clear Valley line of products.  These products mix fish-based and other omega-3 sources.  Bakers should look to both to see which they prefer.
