Although we tend to disagree, many eco-friendly people are looking for fish oil alternatives. Now we find a company producing baking friendly products full of the Omega-3 fatty acids that you need. Currently you can find omega-3 enriched at such wonderful places as Wegman’s, the popular east coast grocery chain. If you look carefully there you will find many Omega-3 enriched products, beyond the bakery. Cargill is also supporting a shortening enriched with Omega-3 under its Clear Valley line of products. These products mix fish-based and other omega-3 sources. Bakers should look to both to see which they prefer.

It is commonly known that Fish oils are a great source of minerals and nutrients that can be used to help the body fight off wear and tear and stay healthy. Fish oils are high in a substance known as Omega 3 which can help with the following:

1. Reduce Pain and Inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids, improve your inflammatory response – that is combating swelling. This can help with people that may suffer from conditions such as arthritis, or osteoarthritis. The oils may also help with maintaining the lubrication of the joints, such as knees and elbows.

2. Improve brain performance – You may have read that Omega 3s are now being trialled by schools to help improve children’s attention problems, this is because many studies show the powerful effect that fish oil can have on the brain.

3. Improve cardiovascular strength – Omega 3 fatty acids are thought to reduce cholesterol, which can help improve the lifespan of your heart. This is of course a good thing, which is why you should regularly eat mackerel and other types of oily fish in your diet. The fish oil found in the mackerel can help add years to your life expectancy – your heart needs all the help it can get.

4. Lower rates of depression and psychosis – Studies have also shown that Omegas may alleviate the symptoms of depression in some people who take high doses of Omega 3s on a regular basis.

With just these 4 potential benefits of increasing your Fish Oil intake, can you afford not to? The likely benefits of increased Omega 3s in your diet are so important. So get yourself down to your local fish market and stock up on those fantastic Omega 3 rich fish and reap the benefits today.

I read an interesting blog post about using fish oil to improve the health of your pets. The post talks about how fish oil improved the dander problems of cats. It seems, however, that it can also help the inflammatory problems of pets, just like in humans. Some people were hesitant to use fish oil on their pets with diabetes, but it seems that the supplement does not increase blood sugar levels as many feared. Also, fish oil seems to slow the spread of cancer in certain pets, something that can extend the life of a pet or help keep veterinarian bills low.

Lots of women and now wondering… should I be taking fish oil supplements while pregnant? This is obviously a question, first and foremost, for your doctor. That said, many studies are finding fish oil as being beneficial toward brain development of children in the womb. The absolute must is finding a supplement that has been purified of mercury and other toxins. There are advanced purification processes in place now, but some stores still sell ‘the cheap stuff.’ In fact, if you find a purified supplement, it’s probably safer than eating seafood itself.
